Didi Wiboonma, Chief Communications Officer and founding team member at Thai exchange Bitazza, joins the show to discuss how crypto took hold in Thailand. Her argument is that the industry’s next phase depends on people using crypto without needing to know it’s crypto.

Didi traces Thailand’s adoption from home miners and the 2017 ICO boom to the Thai SEC’s early licensing framework. Bitazza went live on Christmas 2019. She explains why the pandemic turned crypto into a source of hope for Thais stuck at home, and how it gave everyday users their first access to global markets.

The conversation also covers the fallout from the DeFi and NFT cycles. Didi gives an unusually frank view of Thai regulation, praising the SEC’s speed while admitting that overprotective rules have killed some innovation.

She walks through Bitazza’s current products, including private crypto services for high-net-worth clients and a tourist wallet built on PromptPay. She also talks about Thailand’s shift from mass tourism toward tech conferences and the digital nomad visa.

Didi makes a personal case for representation, describing how crypto opened C-suite doors that corporate Asia kept closed to her. Taka pushes back on where the industry is heading and argues that Asia’s habit of refining imported ideas could give the region the lead.

Hosted by Takatoshi Shibayama, Head of APAC at Ledger.
